Replacing #mindfulmonday fractals with a new series of A3 vector artworks for a while. Favourite lilac blue ❤️ for an end of summer feel.
‘Chichester Iris Fractal, 1’ here. The series builds on the ‘Spirits of the Woods’ ideas - taking something observed in nature and making fantasy or folk-art themed works through digital art. I’ve been using montages and elements from fractals all summer building a group of four. See them each Monday in September. You also see them on my website see link in bio.

Sharing the story behind my piece currently showing with so many amazing artists in ‘Fables’ 🙏 to @swanfallart and @mallgalleries.
In this reel you can see a little plant growing in sunlight and a rough pencil sketch. These photos were taken 31 December 2020. Remember those days? We were heading into the unknown with a global pandemic gathering pace. I was already in a very bad place in terms of my health. My lifeline - literal lines of life - was to make pencil sketches of the same plant each day, sometimes many times a day and into the night. I recorded the progress of the little plant over nearly six months in drawings and photographs.
Two years later I would return to these and transform the drawings into semi-abstract pieces speaking of my winding journey towards a new way of life and an emerging digital art practice. The series is ongoing with around thirty pieces so far in various sizes and moods - small and angry, expansive and reflective. They have become a meditation on time, loss, change and identity. What is fleeting in life and what is constant.
I’m so sad I can’t get to the exhibition. It looks wonderfully evocative. If you do get there, give the little plant that saved my sanity a shout out and say hello, it is hung as a gallery wrap canvas 25”x25” and is a limited-edition archival print (1/25).

So pleased that one of my pandemic sketch pieces ‘Plant Series 2: Masked Cavendish 9’ has been accepted in @swanfall_art #fables in @mallgalleries since the
show explores the theme of shared narratives, memories and evolving understandings.
I’ve been making these works since 2021 from these daily sketches of one plant growing. They tell a story of memory and revisiting, what changes, what stays the same, and what I needed to learn - new skills, new ways of seeing, new ways of being seen - to cope and try to find my path again as life threw me a few curved balls.
The thoughtful and visually impeccably restrained Alexandra Yan Wong (@alexandrayanwongart) speaks of ‘considered repetition’. This term struck a chord with me and helped me understand something of what I am working through as the sketches become abstracted into new forms: The material core of the works is the series of drawings; the soul of the collection is a more perplexing and enjoyable journey into memory, darkness and light, lived art and growth.
You can see more on my website or go straight to the pandemic series through linktree in the bio.

Very moved to hear that my Plant 2 Series has had recognition through the @artistoftheyearawards - means such a lot to me. My entry started as journal sketches from a very dark time in my life and tells a story of art helping me to find a path to the light.
Thanks to @visualartistsassociation and good luck everyone! Look forward to seeing more wonderful pieces.
